Juliet has shown her sense of confidence throughout the story and in many different stages of emotion. Juliet- "if that thy bent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, by one that I'll procure to come to thee, where and what time thou wilt perform the rite."(Act 2, scene 2, line 156-159) In this quote, Juliet asks Romeo to marry her, now usually the man asks the women to marry him, but Juliet was confident about the situation. A lot of women, at the time the play Romeo and Juliet was written, in late 1500's, were not independent. Women relied on their parents and husbands for advice or major decisions. Juliet shows a great deal of being independent about a lot of her tough times and situations where she had to make awkward decisions. Juliet-"is there no pity sitting in the clouds that sees into the bottom of my grief? O sweet my mother, cast me not away! Delay this marriage for month, a week; or if you do not, make the bridal bed."(Act 3, scene 5, lines 224-228). In this quote Juliet is explaining to the nurse how much she does not want to marry Paris. Juliet does not want to marry Paris for a number of reasons, such as because she does not love Paris and she is already married to Romeo, who is the man she truly loves. Juliet-"my husband is on earth, my faith in heaven. How shall that faith return again to earth unless that husband send it me from heaven by leaving earth? Comfort me, counsel me. Alack, alack, that heaven should practice stratagems upon so soft a subject as myself!"(Act 3, scene 5, lines 233-239). In this quote Juliet has realized that her parents want her to marry Paris, when Juliet does not even love Paris. In fact, Juliet is already married
