A Description of the Prodigal Son
“The Parable of the Prodigal Son” was told by Jesus Christ. It is found in the Gospel according to Luke 15:11-32. A parable is a short story with a lesson to be drawn from it. There are three characters and subsequently three types of people. The father represents God, who forgives all sinners and welcomes them back into His Kingdom. The elder son represents those that have an unforgiving heart. The Pharisees felt that they were better than the common sinner was and that Jesus was wrong for being in the company of sinners (harlots, tax collectors, and other outcasts). The prodigal son represents the sinners. The prodigal son can be described with different words, but prodigal, naïve, and humble are used to describe him to understand the lesson in the parable.
