Binge drinking on college campuses is a commonly over looked problem. The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention conducted a
survey in 1999 to study this problem. Approximately 17,600 students attending 140 four-year colleges and universities returned the surveys. According to the study, the overall total of college binge drinkers was 44 percent. This study defined binge drinking as having five or more drinks in a row for males and four or more drinks in a row for females.
