There are many diseases/disorders involving food, eating, and weight in American society. Anorexia Nervosa is one of the main diseases that deals with weight. Anorexia is the relentless pursuit to be thin. It is the refusal to maintain body weight at a normal weight for your age and height. Anorexia stems for the intense fear of gaining weight and becoming fat, even though underweight. When having anorexia you are usually in denial that you are experiencing a seriously low body weight.
Women usually have this disorder, and it mostly occurs in teens or young women. About one out of every hundred teens having anorexia nervosa. About eight percent of men are anorexic. The gender difference in our society explains why women predominantly have anorexia. Men are the strong powerful leaders. Men don't want to be thin and weak. Another option for anorexic people would be to use laxatives, diet pills, water pills, or natural products that they obtain from health food stores to promote weight loss. They might abuse the drug and take more than the actually dosage to help themselves maintain the weight they feel is necessary.
Anorexia nervosa is a curable disease. Once a person finally comes to reality and realize what they are doing to their body, their mind they can get back to leading a normal life. The best step to take to not becoming anorexic is to not diet. Instead make a meal plan and follow that. Don't eliminate your intake of calories or fat just limit them. Anorexia is a serious disease, but with help it can be controlled.
