Architecture: An Influential Profession Becoming an architect is one of the most influential professions in today's society because architects have the power and responsibility to shape the environment in which people spend their daily lives. We are living in a rapidly changing world, and so we need people with the imagination to create the buildings and cities our society needs to keep pace with progress. If you are someone who is excited by change, then you could grasp the opportunity to build the future the way you want it. Architecture of any period reflects the culture of its people and their surroundings. The Greeks were considered to have the most beautified architecture. The Parthenon, for example, was said to be "the apex of simplicity and subtle beauty" (Architects 150). The Parthenon is the most famous Greek sculpture and was designed by Ictinus, a famous Greek sculptor. Not until the 1970's, women in the architectural work field have always found getting a job as an architect very difficult. Opportunities for women in the construction industry was scare and limited. The best way in getting started as an architect is to start early in high school with research. "The important subjects to study are Math, Science, Art, English, Social Studies, History, a foreign language, Computers and Visual Arts" (Careers 19). Good grades and good study habits are vital needs to succeed in the architectural field. "Young students are encouraged to visit design studios at the school of Architecture and tour offices of local firms" (What is Architecture 2). Reading books and magazines on architecture are great ways to gain some better knowledge of to look forward to. If a student finds it to be difficult trying to explore the architectural profession, there are summer courses available at Architectural schools around the nation they can enroll in. on for these lower incomes was because the women's hourly rates were lower and were "receiving unequal pay for equal work" (Piper and Rush 46). Passing the licensing examination is the most important step in a person's career. Most professionals in the United States are licensed to practice a profession. It is a special requirement to be licensed in every state. Usually the licensing examination is given after a person has graduated and served internship in a profession. There are five special needs for succeeding in the architectural profession. The first one is it takes Creativity. "You need diverse skills to deal with the complexities of design and construction process" (Careers17). A person needs to be able to transform just random thoughts and raw materials into something tangible. Creativity is well-crafted and stimulating to the mind and senses. Becoming a licensed architect can have some excellent advantages to living a good life. The good things about becoming an architect is that you can make a lot of money and become very famous for your work. The social status of an architect can say they are educated, artistically sensitive and technically knowledgeable. "Most architects are respected and admired for their work they do and are not afraid to be leaders on a project" (Careers 18). Architects create structures for cultural enrichment and then rewarded when they see their design become a real structure to other people. Architects are extremely dedicated to their work and persistent in sticking to their tasks.
