China Economy
China is the largest of all Asian countries and has the largest population of any country in the world. It consists of an area of 3,691,500 square miles (9,560,900 square kilometers), which is approximately on- fourteenth of the land area of the world. Among all the countries of the world, China has a land area greater then the United States or Brazil but smaller than Canada and the Soviet Union. Its population stands at 1.284.056.407 people that are approximately one fifth of the world's total population. In the year 2002, China has had a birth rate of 14,991,490 people. That would explain the growth rate being below 1.25 percent between 1990 and 2000 thanks to its family planning policy. By 2002, China aims to keep its population at approximately 1.33 billion people. In the year 2010 at 1.4 billion people and 1.6 billion people at the middle of next century. Investments have also taken a rise of 12.1 percent to 4.4 billion US dollars. In 2001, the consumer price index increased by 0.7 percent over the previous year. The consumer price lever in urban areas was an increase of 0.7 percent and it increased 0.8 percent in the rural areas. Although in 2001 the world economy show a major slow down as you can see, the Chinese economy is still having a healthy growth in it economy. A report from a leading investment bank said that the Chinese economy would grow on average six percent a year for the next two decades. That would make China the second largest in the world by 2030. The government plays an important role in the economy. There are almost no private sectors. The bulk of the country's industry is owned and run by the state. The government or the closely regulated cooperatives control the service trades and finance and related services are a government monopoly. Three of the major religions in China is Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Most Chinese believe in the three religions along with other beliefs of ancestors religions such as Catholicism, Protestantism, or Islam which is the largest alternative religion.
