To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis Essay

A detailed Summary of To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis Essay

In the book To Kill A Mockingbird there are many different characters. And they are all very important. Since I had a lot of characters to choose from, it took a long time to decide who to write on. So after a lot of debating, I decided to write about Scout. She is my favorite character in the book.

Scout is very different from most girls. She is more of a tomboy. She doesn't like to do the same things as most girls her age. She is the kind of girl who would rather play with boys than girls. She doesn't have any girl friends to speak of. She always plays with Jem and Dill. Even when they say it's not for girls, she still wants to play.

Not only is she different, she is also very smart. Especially for her age. At the age of six she can already read and write. Her dad never really taught her to either; she just kind of picked it up from watching him. She has been able to read since before she could remember. Even though she can read and write, she is only smart in some ways. For example, she isn't very smart when it comes to fighting. She didn't realize that

There are many reasons why I chose to write about Scout. But the main one is because she is a very complex character. Because of this, I enjoyed trying to figure her out. And as I said before, she is my favorite character in the book.

The next most important person to her is Jem. He is very supportive to her, "Jem was becoming almost as good as Atticus at making you feel right when things go wrong" (259). At first when he started acting differently she didn't like it, "He was difficult to live with, inconsistent, moody. His appetite was appalling, and he told me so many times to stop pestering him..." (115). But after a while Scout realized this change was okay.

And the other person who wasn't very fond of Scout was her Aunt Alexandra. Alexandra didn't appreciate how Atticus had raised Scout and thought she should act more like a lady, "Aunt Alexandra was fanatical on the subject of my attire. I could not possible hope to be a lady if I wore breeches; ...I wasn't suppose to be doing things that required pants" (81).

Our of all of the people in this book, the
