Alone

Whenever I drive alone, a tiny voice buried deep in my mind starts talking to me. It asks me, "What are you going to do if your car breaks down?" Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I don't want to be stuck on a strange, dark, deserted road with a broken down car (which is one of my biggest fears). I don't know much about cars, so in a situation like that, I would be helpless. I would be helpless, but I'm not. I own a cell phone. My cell phone can be annoying and expensive, but the convenience and extra features make it worthwhile.

Sometimes, owning a cell phone is annoying. If I forget to charge the battery, the cell phone might as well be a paperweight. Several times, when I've driven in less populated areas, my phone informs me of the fact that I am in a "no service area". This has also happened in buildings with thick cement walls, especially Meier and Frank at Lloyd Center. My phone doesn't work everywhere.

Since I carry my phone with me at all times, anyone who has my phone number can contact me at (practically) anytime, which is not always a good thing. I hate answering my phone when I'm driving, but sometimes people keep calling me repeatedly. They call me

I can change the appearance of my phone by purchasing a face for it, which costs about twenty dollars. Then, after I buy a new face, I have to buy buttons to match. There goes another ten dollars. If I want my phone to look really cool, I can spend another twenty to thirty dollars to buy a new antenna, which has a colorful flashing light inside. To stay within my budget, I must avoid cell phone accessory stores, and stay within my minutes.

When I was a little girl, cell phones didn't even really exist. There were cell phones, but they were large and incredibly expensive. Technology advanced from that bulky old phone, and modern cell phones emerged. When the technology improved, cell phones became more affordable. Modern cell phones make life easier. Now, almost everyone has a cell phone. I could live without my phone, but I would miss the security it gives me.

My phone has lots of extra features. When I am shopping, I can use the calculator on my phone to add up my purchases before I get to the register. This feature is great for me, because I am horrible at math. If I want to know what time it is, I can just glance at my phone, which has a clock on t
