Internet and Technology
The internet is a technology used by almost everyone around the world. This technology makes it possible for people to access valuable information through millions of sites that have been created by people willing to share there personal knowledge. This technology also allows people to communicate with one another either through email, instant messaging, or verbal chat. Telephone lines and coaxial cable make these connections possible. In this paper I will share with you the personal connection and social context this technology puts on me and other people around the world. The significance of this technology for me is that it allows me to communicate with family members, friends, and teachers easily and effectively. It also provides me with education through sites that have been developed either by companies or people such as college professors that provide you with the information you wish to gain. I feel that the internet good and bad. I believe it is good if you use the internet I ways which I have previously stated. I believe it is bad for reasons such as hackers breaking in to people's personal information and corrupting computers with tools such as viruses.
I have gained many skills from my use of the internet. On the internet I taught myself ways to fix problems that occur with my computer. Also I have learned to upgrade hardware whether it is installing a new video card or simply adding more RAM. Other people have gain skills from my use of the internet by asking me questions about what is wrong with there computer. I relay the things I have learned from the internet to them. In the use of the internet age, sex, ethnicity or social class is really not an influence on society's reaction. People of all ages and different sexes use the internet every day. Ethnicity is the only area that affects the use of the internet for instance if you were Amish you probably wouldn't use internet because that would require electricity and in there religion electric power is not used. Costs of internet can vary according to which connection you chose to have. The average dial up connection cost around 20 dollars a month. A cable connection is about 50 dollars a month and a T1 connection could be as expensive as a couple hundred dollars a month. I think me and other individuals has gained power and prestige from my use of the internet. I personally have gained power and prestige through sending my resume through sites such as monster.com and also knowledge I have gained by browsing news sites. Other people have gained power and prestige through my use of the internet like the cable company with providing me with an adequate connection. Bill Gates for instance gained much power through me using the internet with his ownership of the Microsoft cooperation. Nobody really reacts too much to my use of the internet.
