A detailed Summary of Critical Thinking and Decision Making


What is critical thinking? Critical thinking is a means by which available information is interpreted with the intent of arriving at a justifiable premise or conclusion. For example, when a statement is written with the purpose of influencing the reader's opinion of a topic, critical thinking will evaluate the statement for factual data, rather than emotional appeal. That is not to say that an emotional appeal cannot be well founded, but critical thinking will cause the reader to look for data within the statement, that can substantiate the writer's premise.

What is decision making? Decision making is the application of a choice, or choices, among available options. This can be as simple as the decision of whether to act, or as complex as selecting a sequence among possibilities. People make decisions constantly, based on experience, a bes


t guess, or impulse, and it is not always easy to make the correct decision.

What do you think they are? I see critical thinking as the ability to review data in order to determine its validity. When I research something, I am looking for substantiated facts, for use with the goal of proving my point. That is how I want to relate information that I have and, if it reflects my opinion, my intent is to show legitimate criteria to support that view.

Decision making is what takes possibilities and makes them mine. Choices I make may affect more than just me, yet, because I make them, they will remain associated with me. If I make a good decision, everyone forgets, but if I make a bad decision, everyone remembers.
