Everyman

The author of Everyman vividly portrays the foolishness of man, in how he thinks he will escape death. The poem is written to focus on how temporary everything in life really is. It describes the plight of every man as he faces death. Death comes to every man, whether or not he is ready. This poem portrays everyman as a foolish man, who does not even remember death. Everyman is so busy thinking about other things that he does not remember that one day death will come. Everyman, in his foolishness, keeps his eyes on the materialistic and tangible things, rather than face the thought of an eternal death.

The failure of everyman is seen here: when everyman goes to look for Good-deeds, he finds Good-deeds bound and almost lifeless. In his effort for material things everyman forgot to do good deeds. He also forgot knowledge and confession. If everyman would have nowledge he would have known that death comes to all and very unexpectedly.
