The Glass Menagerie

The Glass Menagerie / [Videorecording] / [By] Tennessee Williams; Cineplex Odeon Films; Producer, Burtt Harris; Director, 1994

My Chautauqua is Tennessee Williams. He was a great writer who wrote many inspiring plays such as A Street Car Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Sweet Bird of Youth, The Night of the Iguana, and Small Craft Warnings. His plays look into the society's passions and frustrations. One of his most popular plays is The Glass Menagerie. This is the story that I chose to read. The Glass Menagerie starts out in a small apartment house where the family is having dinner. The son and the mother soon start to fight and we can immediately see that they have a problem with each other. Then the mother and the daughter start to talk. The mother has high expectations of her daughter to follow in her footsteps and become a gentlemen caller. The daughter tells her mom the sad news of not having any gentlemen callers and her mom is in disbelief. After the son and mother have a fight the son storms off to go see a movie. The mom thinks that he doesn't go see movies but that he is in a gang or doing drugs or some mischievous thing. Later on in he play we find out tha

The story was well written and had an easy to follow plot. We see how different people act to certain things and see what happens if we don't tell someone we love them. This girl missed out on many things in life because she was scared around people. I think that the purpose of this play was to get us to be bold and not care what other people think.

t the son works at a loading dock. The mother keeps on pressing the daughter about having some gentlemen callers over to entertain them, but the daughter always says no. The daughter was enrolled in a typing class so that she could get a job and help support the family but after the second day she decides not to go. She doesn't go because on that first day she was so nervous about being around strangers that she didn't do well in her typing and almost threw up. She was to embarrassed to go back so she just walked around in the park so her mother wouldn't find out. This is the first time we notice that she has a problem with being around people and start to wonder if that's why she doesn't have any gentlemen callers. When her mother finds out what she did she goes crazy because now neither of them have any real education and not much money to live on. This was going to be their salary and the daughter blew it. The mom asks the son if he has any nice men at his w
