Outreach
Outreach made me reflect a lot this year. Due to the fact that I was so bored while I was cutting my vegetables, I thought about our current society a lot. As you have read previous to this conclusion, I discovered 2 things, and I came up with 2 conclusions for the future. The 2 things I discovered were the presence of racism and poverty in Montreal. Before moving here, I didn't think there would be racism, as I was told by many people that Montreal was full of different kinds of races. At school, at the mall, at clubs, at restaurants; racism takes place everywhere. I also figured that racism wasn't only between wealthy and the poor, but also between wealthy and wealthy, and poor and poor. I didn't think there was that much poverty in Montreal.
I have done a lot of community work before. Last year, with a group of 20 students, I went to Trivandrum, in the south of India to work alongside of Habitat for Humanity, to build houses for the people in need. The feeling that you get, by making someone smile, after doing something for them for free is good. After the house was completed, the people of the neighborhood would all thank us hundreds of times. Although we didn't get much of that feeling at Chez Mes Amis, I'm sure I made a difference in someone's life this year. I think community service is something everyone should do once in a while, to give back to the society. At "Chez Mes Amis" in N.D.G., I didn't always feel like what I was doing was being appreciated, but in the end, it does
