Eng. Processes
A detailed Summary of Eng. Processes
The main purpose of this lab was to learn how to safely accomplish different types of welds. The first thing we were introduced to was the apparel we needed to weld.
We were given goggles, gloves, a leather apron and a shielding mask. Than we were told what the emergency procedures were if anything unfortunate would happen. .We first learned the proper way to braze together magnetic materials, I found this to be the most difficult part because nothing was able to be seen until the process of welding has started. After the brazing we learned simple procedures of how to cut out shapes in material using a plasma cutter. After everyone did a weld and accomplished a cut out in front of the TA we went outside and learned how to use a torch to weld pieces together. This was another time I had difficulty, well I was a bit afraid to light the torch but after doing it once and seeing how easy it was the next time was a lot easier. After we learned how to use all the equipment in the lab room we had to do four welds by our selves and show the TA.
The plastic welding lab was a lesson in adjusting the controls of the plastic welder, making the welds, and testing the strength of welds.

After we were shown this we had to weld 3 plastic pieces together. Utilizing PVC, acrylic-welding rod, I was able to weld plastic together. Things that we were reminded to do was to tilt the plastic welder at a 45 degree angle and not to go too fast or too slow (so that a good weld would will be the result). After the welds were completed the TA's tested the strength of my welds bye breaking them apart and I was told that I did a good job.
Once again we were first introduced to the safety procedures needed to weld. We were first introduced to the tools used to plastic weld, then the TA showed us how to properly weld two objects together.
