A detailed Summary of My Race to Maturity


I was sixteen years old and, in my opinion, old enough to do anything on my own. Although I was still young, I wanted to behave maturely. But of course, when adolescents act in ways they don't usually act, things turn out worse. I thought I was more responsible and trustworthy. My parents drove me everywhere, but only when my friends were unavailable. I am sure it eventually became tedious driving me around, but they seemed to not object. It eventually became tedious for me driving with my parents, but there is nothing like getting out of the house. Sometimes I just need to get out of the house, but rides are not always available.

Still sixteen, I was working for a window company and making a good deal of money. I only worked for a few hours a day, but ten dollars an hour added up real quick. It was painful walking or having a friend drive me to work after school every day. I wanted some freedom;


A year and a half later, I was surprised with a new motorcycle, my graduation gift. I was older, eighteen, and didn't take everything for granted and I appreciated things around me much more than before. I deserved it. After I graduated high school, I had no more school. I treated my awesome new toy with great respect, unlike my older bike. I practically babied it; I washed, cleaned, and maintained it, doing everything possible to make the bike stay as new as it could. Driving through town, I paid more attention to my surroundings, ran green lights instead of red, and rode carefully; I learned to do that the hard way. I learned how to stay responsible and keep myself out of trouble. I faced the consequences, and realized that maturity is the key to staying alive.
