A detailed Summary of Does Freewill Exist?
Does freewill exist? That is the question on a lot of minds these days. To
answer that question lets first look at the definition of freewill. It is defined in the
dictionary as the freedom of the will to choose a course of action without external
coercion but in accordance with the ideals or moral outlook of the individual.
With that said I would have to say that I think freewill does not exist.
To begin, it is firstly necessary to analyze the constituents of the self.
Since the earliest beginnings of psychology, one of the most important
arguments was the nature/nurture debate. Are human beings a product of their
environments, or are they a product of intricate biology? Upon the discovery and
exploration of the human genome, the popular contemporary stance is that
humans are influenced by both their biology and their environment. This sounds
simple enough, but by how much of the self is influenced by these two variables?
