history 1301 Technology in America

An American can be described in many ways. Americans from the 1700's, 1800's and today all have differences and similarities; these can be affected by technology, culture, location and government. Each similarity and difference tells you a little more about Americans and their role in society, making America what it is today.

Technology in America has changed over the years and done so quite rapidly. In the 1700's Americans did a lot of hard farm work because they didn't have the technology to have a machine to do the work of hundreds of people in less time like Americans do today. The technology Americans had in the 1700's they brought over with them from Europe. In order to communicate with each other they had to travel down rivers and roads. They did not have cell phones or the Internet to send an e-mail from their home to anywhere in the world in a second like Americans today do. In the 1800's the technology was not much more advanced than the 1700's, but they did have ships and built canals. They were able to begin producing at a higher quality for a lower price. Americans became more intelligent through the years. They formed new opinions and tried out new ideas, some of which failed and some improved technology greatly. We

Government is important to Americans. In the 1700's Americans were finally happy to no longer have aristocratical families, courts, kings, bishops and ecclestical dominion. They finally had some freedoms and would be able to form a more democratic government to rule them. In the 1800's they were still confident in their expectation that the democratic government would prove to be reasonable. Democracy has played a big part in the journey to become Americans. A democracy today seems to be where the people who choose to live under it run the government. To have a true democracy everyone must vote. Americans votes show their democratic rights. If 70% of Americans vote then 70% of Americans control 100% of the government that runs the United States. Government has and always will affect Americans and who they are.

The place each American lives affects the opportunities that that American is given. In the 1700's the Americans living in cities had very different lifestyles from those who lived on farms and in small villages. Where these Americans lived affected both their culture and their ability to use certain technologies. In the 1800's things were basically the same as far as location affected the Americans. Today people living in the Midwest have a completely different out look on life than those on the eastern seaboard. Each region of the United states has it's own way of doing things and living and a lot of it has to do with having to adapt to the environment and the land. Americans living near the coast can do more things involving the sailing and water related occupations. Americans living in the mountainous regions can not sail and make ships, however they are more likely to be involved in lumberjacking and the lumber industry.

In conclusion, Americans are a unique type of people formed through many things. Americans from the 1700's, 1800's and today all have differences and similarities; those are affected by technology, culture, location and governm
