Capital punishment or in other words what is so called the death penalty is considered one of the most severe punishments that anyone can receive. As it is generally known executions are one of the most debatable topics around. Even today in the United States and many other nations around the world, it remains very questionable whether executions should be banned or enforced. Each year there are about 250 people added to death row and 35 of those are executed. Finally, another good reason for capital punishment to be put into effect is that it is less expensive, rather then to keep criminals alive in captivity for the term of their sentence. By locking up the convicts, extra money is needed in order to supply them with food, shelter and clothing not to mention the prison staff that is also needed to keep criminals properly incarcerated (unknown, 2001). Also there will always be a slight chance that the criminal might find himself a way to escape imprisonment. Thus capital punishment is found to be a more cost effective way of dealing with the criminals in our society.

Even so capital punishment may not be a successful solutions but more of an easy way out, it still remains highly effective when dealing with offenders and serves a strong message to all other evildoers out there. When executions are permitted, a powerful message is carried out, forcing the criminals to think twice before committing any act of violence due to the consequences that might fall upon them. In a way this is beneficial since those who offend are forced to think about their own lives first, before going out with the intentions of messing with someone else's life. Consequently if the death penalty is enforced, a significant message will be portrayed and might even change the way of thought for the criminal himself before he is determined to hurt others.
