There is never a simple straight path that leaves us with only one direction to travel in. We are not meant to simply be put into idle and let our existence lead us down a route. Rather we are to choose the route ourselves, and our existence is to follow in our footsteps. We are all travelers and we chose the map of our continuous journey we call life. The road not taken by Robert Frost, is a poem that emphasizes this; it has left it's readers with many interpretations. It is ones past, present, and the general attitude we choose to look upon our future that determines how we see this poem. However it is clear that Frost believes the path one chooses is what makes him the man he is.

Ultimately at the end of "The road not taken" we see the burden of regret in Frost's writing, of having never taken the paths he chose not to travel on, those many years ago. However he remains proud of the decisions he has made, and he realizes that the paths he chose to take are the means that made him the man he is. " I took the road less traveled by and that had made all the difference."

"Then took the other just as fare, and having perhaps better claim." This path "was grassy and wanted wear." It was apparent that the majority of people chose to take the other path, and this route was not for the masses; and so he calls it "The road less traveled by." He does not want to adhere to conformity, and take the safe, secure, more popular path. He would rather venture into the unknown, he chooses what is new and different. He becomes his own person.
