Pressures of Drugs in Sports

Pressures of Drugs in Sports

Drugs are a very temping substance, especially when it involves athletes. Athletes are at a big risk to fall into peer pressure. Sometimes they will see their peers taking drugs to get bigger, stronger, and faster. When someone sees this a little voice tells them that it's the thing to do to gain that extra edge on the competition, so most try doing the drugs. Pro sports stars also take drugs because it could help their success on the playing field, and in turn they should be able to get a bigger contract. Before taking any kind of drugs or supplements, people need to read up on them and learn what affects the drugs will have on their bodies. By doing this, it would help greatly in reducing substance abuse. When a school sport is about to commence there should be a session teaching the kids what drugs can do to your body. With this being taught there would be fewer youngsters abusing drugs and dietary supplements.

The main reason drugs are being taken by athletes is the possibility of greater success. By taking supplements, athletes may increase the success they have, but as a result they are cheating (Honour 1). Nowadays, athletes feel that if they are going to be able to break records in their sport, they are going to need some help to achieve this success (Honour 2). The success does not outweigh the repercussions that follow substance abuse. When an athlete takes drugs they are betting against passing a dru
