War, society, peace, chaos and almost even judgment day, these are all depicted in Lord of the Flies written by William Golding. It portrays a very real time in modern history. Golding wrote this book right around the time of the chaos in WWII. He tried to put together a story that might bring this chaos and confusion into a more simple and easy way to understand, in a story of children and a society that they create themselves. All that was going on at the time is captured in a story of boys stranded on a deserted island.
Before Golding wrote this book, there were was a society in which a leader did not like what was going on in the world. He thought he had a way to improve things. He thought his way was better than anyone else's. The society was Germany and the leader was Hitler, and he set about to take over the countries around him. As Hitler got a country under his control, the
Golding's book helped people realize how senseless war really is, and it also taught people that anyone-- even seemingly innocent "children" can be as savage as untamed beasts.
In the story Jack is like Hitler in Germany, while his country is the choir who follows his every command. Jack did not like how things were operating and he thought he knew a better way to do things so he starting trying to change things. He promised food and protection to those who followed him, but tried to eliminate those who did not go along with him. Just like in Germany, though, those who were killed were actually helpful members of the society who Jack and the others had taken for granted. Ironically, it is the smoke from the fires that get started when the boys are "at war" that actually saves them. Afterwards, the kids donŐt talk about what happened on the island, and the one person who could learn something from them,
