Human Genome Project

The Human Genome is an international research program designed to construct detailed genetic and physical maps of the human genome what they were planning to do was to identify all the approximate 50000-100000 genes in the human DNA, determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA, store this information into databases, improve tools for data analysis, Transfer related technologies to the private sector, and address the ethical, legal and social issues that may arise from the project. The scientific products of the HGP will comprise a resource of detailed information about the structure, organization and function of human DNA, information that constitutes the basic set of inherited "instructions" for the development and functioning of a human being. Successfully accomplishing these ambitious goals will demand the development of a variety of new technologies. It will also necessitate advanced means of making the information widely available to scientists, physicians, and others in order that the results may be rapidly used for the public good. Improved technology for biomedical research will thus be another important product of the HGP. From the inception of the HGP

There are many organizations involved in this project. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) have been cosponsored the Human Genome Project (HGP) since the beginning of this project. And there are 18 countries participate in the worldwide effort, with significant contribution from the Sanger Center in the United Kingdom and research centers in Germany, France, and Japan

The Jewish tradition emphasizes that man is in partnership with God. In the story of Genesis, which says that, Adam and Eve were "to work it (the Garden) and to preserve it" (Genesis 2:15). Man is obligated to care for what he has created and to improve upon creation in order to meet human needs.

Over time people may think of Children clones, as merely more than an object which holds no value to them.

People believe that Children may suffer a diminished sense of Individuality and personal autonomy. A cloned child may feel that their future is constrained by the life path of their gene donor.

Genetic Engineering is used to take genes and segments of DNA from one species and put them back them into another species, To do so, Genetic Engineering provides a set of techniques to cut DNA either randomly or at a number of specific sites. Once isolated one can study the different segments of DNA, multiply them up and stick them next to any other DNA of another cell or Organism. Genetic Engineering makes it possible to break through the species barrier and to shuffle information between completely unrelated species for example putting the anti-freeze gene from flounder into tomatoes or strawberries.

What are the Advantages and disadvantages of such a project?
