Eating Disordes

A detailed Summary of Eating Disordes

The three narratives I chose for this paper were Alisa L. Valdes, Abra Fortune Chernik and Nomy Lamm. All of these narratives talk about the body, eating disorders, and body image. I feel like I relate to these narratives because I used to be anorexic for three years, so by reading these stories I can totally relate. I think the one I enjoyed reading the most was "The Body Politic". This story talked about women who were anorexic for years and also bulimic. The way she expressed her feelings by telling the story and the details was exactly how I was and exactly how I felt. I agree 100% when she talks about how the media and society has a major role in eating disorders today. I strongly believe that. The reason for mine was because I was heavily into ballet dancing for 15 years. I danced professionally in Las Vegas (with clothes on) and every week they would weigh us to make sure we did not gain any weight and if we did we had to lose it quick! I only did that for six months because I was paranoid of gaining any weight. So that did no good when it came to trying to overco

The next story I read was "Ruminations of a Feminist Aerobics Instructor". This story was also about how an Aerobics instructor saw how these women wanted to lose weight and be thin again. Alisa mentioned that the fitness industry is just another way to increase out problem today about women and weight. Women go to aerobic classes and see other women and compare themselves to these other women and want to have the body like hers. Alisa mentioned also that "there is still the knowledge that none of us, will ever reach our real goals playing by the rules of that industry". That is totally true, we can never please society today because it just keeps getting worse.

The story "It's a Big Fat Revolution" was very interesting. I enjoyed how she loved her body and she knew she was fat, and she excepted that. This is how it should be in society today with women and there bodies. I wish girls today could have the attitude and positive personality about themselves like these women did. It was more of a positive story in a way because I think I enjoyed her positive output on th
