Beach Burial

A detailed Summary of Beach Burial

The picture, that I have drawn, is representing the poem "Beach BurialaE? by Kenneth Slessor. In this picture I have concentrated on the lines " the convoys of dead sailors comeaE? and "Unknown seaman - the ghostly pencil waver and fades, the purple dripsaE? which is in the first and the fourth verse of this five verse poem.

In the poem "Beach BurialaE? Slessor talks about how sailors and soldiers are shot and killed and left floating in the water which he describes as "the convoy of dead sailorsaE?. But there is a person who has the time to "pluck them from the shallows and bury them in burrows and tread the sand upon their nakednessaE?. This person also makes crosses for them and writes "unknown seamenaE? which becomes smudged from the rain. Finally Slessor is pointing out what a waste of life it is when the enemies become equal in death and

how they both reach the "other frontaE? which means heaven.

Firstly I will describe what this picture is. This picture is describing the way that the bodies are floating together to form what happens to look like a boat. I have then drawn more bodies grouped together to look like boats so that it matches what Slessor has said about "the convoys of dead sailorsaE?. What Slessor says about " the convoys of dead sailorsaE? is a metaphor because it is saying that the dead sailors are drifting into a beach in convoys, which is a term that refers to ships sailing together. This is a metaphor because the dead sailors cannot actually float in convoys. This metaphor has a big role in this poem. It is right at the start of the poem and gives a sense of calm relaxed feeling of how the sailors are floating in the water. It also makes you feel there is a great waste of
