A detailed Summary of Billy's biggest obstacle is his Dad


One aspect of life the movie, "Billy Elliot", looks at is overcoming obstacles. During the film there are many obstacles that Billy must overcome to get where he wants to go, one of these being his dad. While I agree that Billy's dad was a big obstacle in Billy's life, I don't agree that it was his biggest obstacle. Billy had to conquer other obstacles that were bigger than his Dad. One of these was grief over his Mother's death.

Throughout the movie we see many signs that show that Billy was still grieving over his Mother's death. Some of these signs are how well Billy takes care of his Mother's grave, by cleaning the graffiti off the headstone, cutting the grass around her grave and throwing away all the rubbish that was left near it by other people. When Mrs. Wilkinson asked Billy to bring things that i


nspired him to the boxing hall, he brought the letter his Mother wrote to him, which he had memorised even though he was supposed to open it when he turned eighteen. He also tried to play a song that his Mother used to play on her piano, before they used it for firewood due to financial difficulties. But the biggest sign that I saw that told us that he was still in grief about his Mother's death was when he hallucinated and saw his mother in the kitchen. I think that trying to get over his Mother's death would be even harder to do than trying to overcome the problem that his father had with ballet.

At the time of the movie, just before he leaves to the Royal Ballet School, Billy had overcome all of his obstacles in the movie, except for one. This one is his Mother's death. His father accepted the fact that
