Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a personality disorder that is wide spread among our country. There are two main parts to this disorder. These two parts are depression and mania. Depression and mania are two completely opposite problems. Depression is a persons extreme low. While mania is an extreme high. The type, severity and duration of mood episodes experienced can vary. (bipolarhome.org)According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, up to one-third of the 3.4 million children and adolescents with depression in the United States may actually be experiencing the early onset of bipolar disorder. (bpkids.org)This is a personality disorder, so it does affect the self in many ways. The self is changed because when you are going through a depressive state of mind, you are unable to be happy. While in the manic phase you may sometimes find yourself too happy. Many people suffer from the disorder Bipolar. Bipolar affects the human personality and human self in many ways which can be treated easily if detected. The study of the brain can help you realize whether or not someone has Bipolar disorder. While studying that particular part of the person's brain, you look for one main thing.
The extreme low of the bipolar disorder is depression. Depression is known as the worst part of this disorder. This part of the disorder usually appears first. This is also experienced more frequently then mania. The reason that people feel that this part of the disorder is the worst is because those who have it can get themselves so low that they even think about suicide. About fifteen percent of people with depression experience rapid mood changes. This part of the disorder effects your "self's" perspective. You begin to lose your insight to where it eventually disappears. Most people, who are depressed, blame themselves for ending up this way. Acting in this way does occur often. If you can catch depression early on, you can either stop it all together, or find a way to help it so that it doesn't become worse. The longer you take before you help stop depression the more likely you are to have another episode. Episodes are prime factors in why people look down on others who have this disorder. You are a social outcast, because of your lack of interest in things other people are doing. By acting in this manor, you are increasing your depressive behavior. A side affect involved in doing this is that you will shut yourself out from the world. You will not have anyone to confide in and your self respect will eventually start withering away to almost non existent. The other side to the bipolar disorder is mania. Mania is defined as an abnormally elevated mood disorder normally found in the context of bipolar or manic depressive disorder. (bipolarhome.org)An episode of mania may begin abruptly, over the space of a few hours or days, or gradually, over some weeks. (bipolarhome.org)This part of the bipolar disorder is rarely found. Unlike depression, mania is more hidden. Some symptoms of mania are, Increased energy, activity, restlessness, racing thoughts and rapid speech, Excessive euphoria, Extreme irritability and distractibility, Decreased sleep requirement, Uncharacteristically poor judgment, Increased sexual drive, Denial that anything is wrong, Overspending, and Risk-behavior.(bipolarhome.org) Only about one percent of the population encounters mania. An episode with mania can occur in different ways. It will either be very abrupt or it will gradually occur over days, weeks, and even months. While experiencing mania, you can develop some very unhealthy habits. The most popular of these habits are, alcoholism, drug use, over the counter prescriptions, and even food. You also experience some major changes in your life. Even though these patients are energetic, cheerful, and talkative there are some negative results. They may only sleep very little, spend money widely, very domineering and perception is altered. People have lost jobs because of this part of the disorder. Mania comes in many different forms. These forms are, schizophrenia, drug-induced states, and organic disorders. Mania and schizophrenia are very hard to distinguish be
