Capital Punishment

The issue on capital punishment being allowed in the American court system has been an ongoing debate for many years. I believe that capital punishment is moral and just. Edward Koch said "it is by exacting the highest penalty for the taking of human life that we affirm the highest value of human life." How can murder be taken seriously if the punishment isn't as serious as the crime? It can't be which is why we need to do something about it. I firmly believe that you can have a deep regard for human life and also be in favor of the death penalty. One is not synonymous of the other.

Murder is the worst crime there is. Anything less than the death penalty is insulting to society and most of all the victim and their family. People who are unwilling to respect the laws of our country and be responsible law abiding citizens will be dealt with within our judicial system. This is a system that has been approved by the people of the United States and is a just way to dole out

I have tried to argue that the death penalty is moral and just. We must never forget that no one has to be executed; if there are no murders, no one is executed. Murderers are not innocent people fighting for their lives; that statement describes the victims. First and foremost, the citizens of the United States must realize that victims rights take precedence over those of the criminals.

It is wrong morally to imprison someone for murder. A sentence of life in an air-conditioned, cable-equipped prison where a person gets three free meals a day, personal "play" time, and regular visits with friends and family is a slap in the face of law abiding citizens. Anti-death penalty activists will say that not all prisons aren't like this. This shows lack of knowledge. Eventually, criminal rights activists will see to it that all prisons are nice places to go. But no matter what the conditions of a certain prison are, someone who murders another human being should be made to pay
