Analyzation of Dickinson Poem #1129
Tell all the Truth but tell it slant- "Tell all the Truth but tell it slant"- This particular line hits close to home pertaining to our situation as far as our pending war with Iraq and what we are being told. We are periodically informed, but not without bias. The capital T in Truth seems to mock the truth, as when a person puts a word in quotations, to negate the meaning, or call it the "so-called truth". It implies that information is provided, but it is not complete or honest. Telling it "slant", is telling with a bias, giving information, but misrepresenting it. After analyzing the poem, I understand it less than when I first read it. The more I read it, the more it changes, and the more confused I become. I chose this poem because to me, it exemplifies what people who believe we should go to Iraq are basing their ideas on. I fell prey to the truth in reading an article in the San Jose Mercury News, and what the media wants us to believe. The article tremendously underrepresented the number of protestors that attended the anti-war protest in San Francisco, this past Saturday. I am putting my own "slant" on my interpretation of this poem, but it is my recently learned "Truth". The scariest thing about the truth is how little we know of it. to say that we are enclosed in a space of reality and don't venture outside of the circuit to find the "Truth". "As Lightening
