Saturday Night Live has been a great comedic series with many of the greatest comedians starting on the show. For 28 years the show has been one of the best comedy and live shows that we have seen. The show has had hosts and musical guests of all types, from Al Gore to Howard Cosell. The first year, 1975, had 24 shows and was filled with comedians such as Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, and John Belushi. The hosts in the first year featured Paul Simon, Dick Carvette, and Desi Arnaz, and with such musical appearances by Bill Withers, Betty Carter, and Randy Newman. The second year had 20 episodes and introduced a comedian named Bill Murray. The show featured many guests such as Jodie Foster, Steve Martin, and Paul Simon again. The musical guests included Frank Zappa, The Meters, and James Taylor. In the 77-78 year the only change in comedians was the absence of Chevy Chase who finished on the 15th of January in 1977. This years hosts included many famous people such as Hugh Hefner, Chevy Chase, O.J. Simpson, and Steve Martin. Musical guests were at a high point with stars like Willie Nelson, Billy Joel and Elvis Costello. The next season had 20 shows with guests like Nicolas Cage, Sinbad, Tim Robbins, Bill Murray, Christina Applegate, and Kevin Kline. The musical guest for that season included the Spin Doctors, Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Bon Jovi, Mick Jagger, and Lenny Kravitz. In the 93-94 season the crew included such comedians as Mike Myers and Phil Hartman and included hosts like Charles Barkley, Nicole Kidman, Martin Lawrence, and Emilio Estevez. Janet Jackson, the Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, and Snoop Doggy Dog were the musical guests for the season. The next season saw no new faces in the crew but lost an up and coming star in Bill Murphy. This season had many hosts such as Tim Curry, Bill Murray, Danny DeVito, John Madden and Lauren Hutton. The musical guests that season included such hits as Miles Davis, Elton John, The Go-Go's and Billy Joel. In the 82-83 season had hosts like a young Drew Barrymore, Eddie Murphy and Stevie Wonder. Also it saw musical guests like Queen, Tom Petty and Duran Duran. The history of SNL has been up and down a few times. Lorne Michaels created the show and the show has been nominated for 85 Emmy Awards and won 17 as well as being inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Many spin-offs have occurred from SNL like "Wayne's World," "Tommy Boy," and "A Night At The Roxbury". Saturday Night Live has had its share of "SNL Era's". The rest of the 1980's saw some stars like John Candy who later joined the show, Jamie Lee Curtis, Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Madonna, Tony Danza, Ringo Star, Walter Payton, Joe Montana, Tom Hanks, John Lithgow, Mel Gibson, John Goodman, and Fred Savage.
