A Soul of Citizen
A "Soul of Citizen" to me is someone who does things for others without getting something back in return. They get involved and help their communities for the better. They help preserve the only earth that we will ever get for future generations. I also feel, to have a "Soul of Citizen" you must show compassion. Now they don't exactly have to meet all the standards that I just spoke about, because no one is exactly perfect. Although they must meet most of the requirements, and now a days a person like that is very difficult to find. Paul Loeb describes a true Citizen in his book called Soul of Citizen. He said that you must be opened minded, care about others to get involved, stand up for what you believe in, and takes care of the earth a for better tomorrow. He gives real life stories about personal experiences about other people doing theses acts. This was a book showing that human nature can be expended into something more than just technology and mindless chatter. It shows that humans care for one and another. That we can help each other out when the time is needed for taking action. I personally think that I've found a person with most of my characteristics and the one that Loeb describe
His involvement in the community has given us young children a role model to look up to. I think that will make the future generation a much better place. What he does will set off a chain reaction that will spark a better tomorrow. He does all these things knowing this. He wants a better place for his children to live. He makes the highway better for cleaner air, and less littering. He makes other people feel better by bringing a ray of sunshine into their lives. With all the Charities he does and lives he changes for the better he wants nothing in return for his accomplishment. Recently I've had the pleasure of interviewing an old friend of mine. His name is John Tyler Watson. He lives in a small town called Lone Oak. People say that if you are from a small town you usually grow up with better morals and respect. I think that John is one living being that truly makes this statement true. He is a schoolteacher for the town of Greenville, which is the biggest town around that area. Although I've asked him a lot of times to teach in Lone Oak, because it's a better school. He just smiles and replies, " I have three hungry mouths to feed, and a spoiled wife to please." (Watson Intv.) On the side he is a Sunday school teacher for the church I go to. He makes getting up at 8:30 in the morning, and missing cartoons all worth it. He also loves fishing, hunting, football, and skiing. Just like a regular American man, but there are very special attributes that he does that makes him have a "Soul of Citizen". Ede, Lisa.
