Jesus and St. Paul
The formation of Christianity is an argumentative topic that has a variety of view points. Both Jesus and St. Paul have contributed a lot in the formation of the Christian religion. There are a lot of similarities in the teachings of Jesus and St. Paul, but both of them lack important aspects that are important in our modern day society. Jesus Christ the central figure of Christianity. Jesus referred to himself as the Son of Man. "Jesus preached the kingdom of God, not himself" (Historical Jesus). Christians traditionally regard Jesus as the Son of God. The name Jesus is derived from a Greek rendering of the Hebrew name Joshua. The title Christ is derived from the Greek christos. "Christ" was used by Jesus' early followers, who regarded him as the promised deliverer of Israel and later was made part of Jesus' proper name by the church, which regards him as the savior of all humanity. Jesus father was a carpenter, and therefore he became a carpenter. When he reached the age of 30 he decided to not to become a carpenter and become a preacher. Jesus only preached for three years, and he never wrote anything that he preached. The best sources we have today for Jesus are the four gospels, who
Jesus had five basic teachings that he used in order to spread Christianity. Firstly, he referred to God as a fatherly figure. Secondly, he believed in universal love and brother forgiveness, which means that all men are brothers and we have to forgive people that treat us bad. This was shown when the gospel of Saint Matthew stated, "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your father who is in Heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust" (A/O 204). Thirdly, he believed that people should treat others like they would like to be treated and this was called the Golden Rule. Fourthly, he denounced wealth and luxury because he felt they acted as a barrier to wards getting closer to god. This was shown when the gospel of Saint Matthew stated, "but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also... Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or What shall we wear?'" (A/O 205). The Essenes were a religious group that believed by giving up wealth and luxury they would become closer to God. Fifthly, he believed that a person lived to prepare himself to the kingdom of heaven. This was shown when the gospel of Saint Matthew stated, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well" (A/O 205). m are called Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. They wrote about Jesus after his death within several years. The central theme of the Gospel of Matthew is that Jesus is a the Messiah, the fulfillment of the promises made by God through Abraham, Moses, and the prophets. More than that he referred to Jesus as the Son of God. There are a lot of similarities between the teachings of St, Paul and the teachings of Jesus. Both Jesus and St. Paul believed in universal love and brother forgiveness, which means that all men are brothers and we have to forgive people that treat us bad. This was shown when the gospel of Saint Matthew talks about Jesus, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (A/O 205). Jesus is trying to tell his followers that if they forgive their enemies God will forgive them. On the other hand Paul also believed that if a person seeks revenge from an enemy, he also is considered evil because he is causing evil. Therefore St. Paul believed in forgiveness. This was shown when Paul stated, "Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all...if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give hi
