Reality TV

You want pretty girls French kissing each other? No problem. What about mud wrestling and handcuffs? Sure thing. Girls in bikinis hosing themselves down? Of course. Sounds like we need a reality check. With nonscripted shows continuing to draw huge ratings, networks seem increasingly fond of this kind of TV. There's a reason reality TV seems too good to be true, because it really is. Why is reality television so popular? What do we have in common with these people? Is reality television really entertainment? According to the Webester's dictionary the definition of reality is the quality or state of being actual or true. So where do we fit in, in all this fuss. The real problem in America though isn't so much the low quality of television it is the high quantity of TV. People watch too much altogether. Reality television is merely an illusion, an illusion that Americans thrive on.

So is reality television a really bad thing? One would have to live, on a deserted island in the South China Sea not to be swept away be the recent or reality television. Indeed millions of Americans have caught the TV show "Survivor", the shows success has led to a string of knock-offs and has ensured that reali

So is the talent really there in these shows? With these shows being non-scripted the so-called "stars" are being put to the extreme. So what do these people have that the rest of us don't? Well nothing to tell you the truth. One thing I can't dwell upon is if they would do these things to celebrities, what will they do to us low-class people? So why not indulge that American desire for revenge on people who are popular and great looking?

We've got a 50 percent divorce rate in the USA right now. So when you present programs like these where the end game is marriage, bases on marrying this fake millionaire or a marriage based on picking out of 25 girls the one you know who rings and chimes the best, that's a terrible reason to choose a mate.

There are many reality television shows airing now days but none as popular as "The Bachelorette" and "American Idol." Viewers thrive on Trista's 90 minutes of fame

According to Leslie Moonves CBS's news anchor you have to be very careful with reality programming because it can be very seductive, but it can start to force you into a place where you're juggling your schedule to satisfy a very short term fix. Watching these shows allows us to imagine what we'd do in an extreme situation, whether it's being a cast away on an island, confined in a house with strangers, or offered a prize to serve as a playground for rats.
