This section of the film series focuses in on India and the many cultures within. Referring to it as " the empire of the spirit," the film certainly does show the wide array of spirituality in India. Their culture has been there for thousands and thousands of years, and I imagine that we cannot begin to understand what they believe and how they live. Spirituality is a big factor in how they live. Everything they do in their lives revolves around what they believe in, which in India happens to be largely Hindi.
We know very little about the Indus Valley civilization, which is the first era of India. Archeological work is being done there now to find out more about their culture. The U.S. thrives at knowing the past because it had so many different cultures which all got along reasonably well. For some reason we cannot do that here. We want to know how they can live together as one and still have such a diverse atmosphere. Perhaps it had something to do with Ashoka, the king of the Maurya Empire, who after winning a battle felt so ashamed of the suffering he caused that he t
Colonization has had a bad influence on the southeast. They had many hard times because of the British and trying to break into their culture. For over 200 years the British colonized India. On the video it claims that the British rule was just an interruption for them and they tried there hardest to continue living the ways they were accustom to. Through this India held together and eventually pushed them out in 1947, and now has an established government and society. Hopefully they have come back to their old ways and didn't lose track.
Today India is very heavily populated, 251 million people, which makes us in the west think that means large cities and heavily populated towns. Here it is quite the contrary. Two thirds of India is still living as village societies. How can they live with so many people in villages, how do they get all the necessities they need? The answer to that is simple, they just don't live like us. They don't need all the things we do because those things aren't necessities to them.
