Welfare Abuse

When it comes to pet peeves, there is one thing that really comes to my mind, it's people who inappropriately abuse the welfare system. By this I am referring to the select few who I feel are taking advantage of the program. They show no interest in trying to better themselves or their situation and I also feel there needs to be some type of "earning what you receive."

There are definitely those that take advantage of this program, using the welfare system as the easy way out. I feel there needs to be more screening of each participant, making sure they are qualified to receive the funding and not abusing the system. This screening should continue at least every six months. I'm sure this involves more paperwork for someone, but we need to be a little more selective on who truly deserves to get this help. Every

During this welfare period, I would suggest they do something to earn the welfare money they are receiving. There is always volunteer work with the community, churches, youth group and food banks. This would also help them to prepare themselves for working, hopefully in the near future. No one capable of work should be allowed to just receive free money without giving the government or the state something in return. An example would be if a single mother with 3 children on welfare would volunteer in a local day care center. She would be caring for her children as well as training to work in the day care field.
