Cedric Jennings Evaluation

Reading the book, A Hope in the Unseen, was and experience I will never forget. Learning the way different races deal with different situations was almost unbelievable. There were some things happening that were dealt with in different way then a white person, such as myself, would have thought it would have been dealt with. It is a completely different situation when a white person puts themselves in the shoes of a different race, that being African American in this particular novel. This is what we were forced to do when reading this book.

Cedric Jennings, himself, visited the Bowling Green State University campus and talked with those students who have read the book concerning his life. The Cedric in the book seemed to be very deep in thought at all times, constantly shy around superiors, and was interested in academics more than anything else. I do understand, however, that going for a master?s degree or doctorate, and being a first year undergraduate is two very different situations and I am sure there are different levels of stress. I was not content with the performance that Cedric gave to the students of this campus because I do not believe that he came prepared, nor was he the person that was portrayed in the novel. If there is a book written about a person and the obstacles they overcame to get where why are, then that book should be accurate in the way it depicts the people in it.

certain issues could ask Cedric his thoughts on the matter. This was the first disappointment. Many p
