Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder:

Defiance, aggressiveness, and cruelty. Before the early nineteen hundreds a person with these characteristics would be thought to be evil or even the work of the devil himself. Today, we know that these are just a few of the many symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, also know as ADHD. Between now and the early nineteen hundreds and few years before, ADHD has gone through many changes such as its name, the way people view the disorder, its symptoms, and the treatments for it. It is very important to know about Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder because it is a very common disorder seen among people since almost the beginning of time.

The disorder that today is known by us as ADHD has had many different name changed throughout the years. Tracing back to the year nineteen hundred and two George Frederic Still described Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder as a "Defection in Moral Control." This name was given based upon children misbehaving and not having any self-control. "After the Encephalitis Epidemic in nineteen hundred and seventeen and eighteen, doctors noted that many children showed symptoms of ADHD (de Armas, Valerie). Since as far back as the late nineteen thirties, doctors researched for something to calm ADHD. During that time they discovered that amphetamines were helpful in reducing hyperactive or impulsive behavior. There were not many solutions to Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder then. "Not until the nineteen sixties were stimulant medications were used for treatment when there was an increase in psychiatric drug intervention."(de Armas, Valerie) Now in the present, there are many solutions to calming ADHD. Many psychiatric drugs are available such as Ritalin or Dexedrine. Stimulants such as these have been discovered to have opposite results a person diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and a person who doesn't have ADHD. Although the stimulants can make an undiagnosed person "high," it brings down a person diagnosed with ADHD to calm down. Another choice available today that wasn't practiced very much before is psychiatric therapy. It can help teach a person with ADHD to recognize when they are misbehaving and how to control themselves from misbehaving. Many choices to treat ADHD have been found and surely in the future there will be other ways to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.
