Why Do You Hate Me
The unnecessary ignorance of today's hate crime offenders is staggering. The repercussions of said crimes are far reaching to the members of all society. Today hate crimes affect a great number people, not only in this nation but also in the entire world. Hate crimes create fear, mistrust, and hostility among our society, and they can happen anywhere at anytime, therefore no one is safe from them. Hate crimes seem to come from the root of evil and the offenders can be portrayed as the devil himself in some examples. Hate crimes are committed all the time and yet we do not know the actual cause for them or why anyone would be possessed to go through with such an act. Often, the results of the acts are horrifying and tragic leaving behind many with unanswered questions and no one to give them a solid or healing answer. As a whole, our society needs to come together and find a way to prevent the evil that plagues us through the form of a hate crime. The resolution may seem very far in the distance and it may be a goal we strive to reach for ages but maybe one day there will be peace in the world and we might learn to live as friends and not foes. Hate crimes not only affect the individuals directly involved with them, but societ
While it is evident every individual cause is unknown for what pushes a person to the limit, some can still speculate. The main points that may stick out in your head are ignorance, hatred, and obviously prejudice. Just a short eight months ago terrorist Osama bin laden committed what could be named one of the biggest hate crimes of our time, he destroyed our World Trade Centers and murdered thousands of innocent people. The reason behind it, because he hates the Americans. That is the demented reasoning behind this creatures acts, he did not like us... so it gives him the go-ahead to kill thousands of people, leave many children parentless, and leave the country with the biggest disaster we have seen in years. Another example of hatred is the Holocaust where millions of harmless and innocent Jews were maliciously attacked, worked, and disposed of. Aldof Hitler was the cause of this treachery and the only reason was because he disliked their religion. How can anyone get into and understand the minds of these men, how can you possibly fathom what went through their minds when they decided to through with the acts. It is hatred pure and simple. Ignorance too is a factor in the hate crime equation and it is yet another cause for unnecessary death. " Aurora Grajeda, a resident of San Francisco's mission district, said she had been spat upon and stalked by a man hell bent on harassing her just because of who she was: a homosexual woman. 'At first I was dumbfounded... then angry,' said Grajeda, 54, recalling the incident that occurred on valentines day as she walked along mission street to one of her favorite markets. 'After he followed me for several blocks, it was sheer terror.' The man, who was riding a bike, followed her with anti-gay epithets until she ducked into an alcove, where she found a phone and called police. By the time the officers arrived, she was in tears. The man was gone. The officers took a report but no arrest was ever made."(7) Most of all though, the underlying fact is prejudice. It can go so far back into our history and we see examples of prejudice everywhere that we turn. It is terrifying to think that it starts in the family itself, when children grow up with hate against a certain group they are bound to exercise it. It is overly evident that this is true even in grammar school where slurs are thrown, up until high school where things can get deadly. History repeats itself as we know and it seems there is nothing we can do to stop the hate. The KKK was a group that was solely against blacks and saw to it they were punished for being born. While the KKK is no longer as great a threat is was 30 years ago people are still dying because of their skin color. "Last year, 55 percent of the victims were targeted because of their race. African-Americans were by far the most frequent victims of hate crimes, representing 36 percent of all victims.(8) Also, "about 17 percent of the hate crime victims were selected because of their religion, 16 percent because of sexual orientation and 12 percent because of their ethnicity or national origin. Of those attacked because of their religion, 75 percent were Jewish." Again more statistics thart show who we re
