The Divine Wind is an outline of what the war was like back in the 1930's to the 1940's. It basically talks about issues of war, love, friendships and racism. The novel describes the friendship between Hart Penrose and his sister Alice, children of Michael Penrose, a Pearling fleet owner, Misty, a Japanese Australian, a daughter of Sadako, and Jamie Kilian, the son of the local Magistrate. The romantic links between these characters and Alice's relationship with property owner Carl Venning highlight the prejudices and the insecurities, which make up our national identity. Their innocent romances are an ironic prelude to the devastating advent of war- a war that changes all their lives and leaves them with scars, which will never heal. The novel vividly demonstrates that war destroys lives, even those of the living. It is a passionate grief for the ordinary lives, which are shattered by conflicts, which have little to do with them.
Love: Misty and Hart love each other. But for some reason she still sees Jamie. At the end of the novel Misty writes Hart a letter telling him that she has always loved him.
Friends: Hart has a friend named Jamie but Hart got a bit jealous because Jamie went overseas to fly planes.
Personality: Misty is very paranoid girl and she is very self obsessed.
Age: The book starts of with Misty being 13. By the end of the book Misty was 20.
