To Clone or Not To Clone

Imagine how life would become when millions of people start looking alike, acting alike, and thinking alike. There would be no diversity what so ever in today's society. Since February 23rd, 1997, when British scientists announced to the world that they had successfully cloned an adult sheep named Dolly, the world has been scrambling to limit the possibility of using cloning techniques to clone humans. To most people, the idea of cloning humans, and its moral implications, has safely confined to the realm of science fiction. Yet, as the world slumbered, researchers have arrived at an urgent question. Should we clone humans? Before we decide on an answer, we must remember that the subject of human cloning, like any other issue with far reaching effects, is full of complexities that cannot be dismissed with a simple yes or no answer. We must consider all the effects that cloning will cause. There are many positive effects as a result of cl


The issue of cloning has affected today's society in a number of negative ways. Cloning has turned religions, governments, and the medical fields against one another. None can agree on where to draw the line between scientific development and playing God. Creating so-called 'designer babies' would be giving in to the selfish desires of the parents. The newborn coming into the world would be an instrument of the parents' preconceived ideas. In this day and age it is most likely that children will sue their parents for wrongful genetic selection. To clone oneself would be egoism made manifest. Furthermore, recreating exact physical copies is not a guarantee that the same individual will be recreated. They would be look a like differing in personality and ideals. Clones are already proving to be old before their time and animal experiments show that it is highly wasteful of eggs and embryos.
