Brigadoon
For my theatre class, I watched the musical Brigadoon, which was performed by Moorpark Colleges Theatre students. The play took place in their very plush performing arts center. It took place in Mid November and was overall a fantastic production. As I walked in, there was nice, subtle classical music playing in the lobby. It was very soothing to hear as we got our programs, which were basic programs (nothing over the top or fancy) but thats the way it should be, and looked at the various pictures they had displayed. The ambiance was very casual because most of the people who came to see it were college students, so I felt very homey. I dressed in my jeans and a sweater, and I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I hate being under or over dressed. I felt right at home in this theatre... my little cousin was asleep on my arm. There were no refreshments offered before the play, only during intermission. However, there was water available, and restrooms too, which made it pretty kid-friendly. During Intermission, you could buy a soda or coffee, or snacks like cookies and chips. It was inexpensive, probably because they were not expecting pro
The lighting was pretty good. At times it could have been a little brighter, because it was hard to see the expressions. There should have been more of a spotlight in the night time scenes. The set designers and creators spent a lot of time on the scenery, because it was immaculate. Perfect! So many changes! It was great work, and was very detailed. The costumes on the town people of Brigadoon were so cute! They were dressed in garments typical of the 1800's, and were very professional. The city men wore normal clothes, which was fine. They obviously had a dress rehearsal or two, because the performance was very smooth. Everyone had perfect makeup, an d it was funny how much makeup the town "floozie" was wearing, but it worked for her character. The actor who played Tommy was pretty believable, but not the best. He was not dismal, but not extraordinairy. The execution of his lines could have been stronger. At the end of the play, it seemed like he was getting worn out of playing the character. It was good up until then. What was good? He never broke character or anything. He also picked up his cues perfectly, I just believe he could have analyzed his character a little bit more. He could have tried harder to use the illusion of the first time. His voice was a little too quiet, which might have made it harder for some people to hear, but not really me. When he wasn't speaking, he was acting how his character would act under that type of situation. The actor who played Jeff, Nick Pappas, was superb in every possible way. He was a great actor who obviously knew a lot about acting. He really got into his character, and we could imagine the type. He was very humorous, and made sure and waited for laughter to end before going on, and he knew the punch lines. He enunciated very well, each consinant and vowel were clear, and
