Sexism
Sexism is a term used for treating people differently because of the gender in which they were born. It is used when a person is biased towards one sex over the other. For example saying that men are supposed to go out and work while the women stay at home and clean, cook and look after the children. This is a very sexist term as women can equally work as much as a man. The world has changed so much within the past century that maybe the term I have just written would have been true a hundred years ago but now within a fast developing world a woman is entitled to an office job just as much as a man is. With technology advancing and cloning taking its place, it is really scary as soon the cloning of humans will be happening whereby people will be able to choose the sex of clones produced. At the moment nobody has any control over what gender we are going to be before we are born even though you can know what the gender of the new born is going to be. Knowing you are unable to choose the gender of a new-born is good otherwise it will make this world a more sexist place than it already is. At the beginning of this century, women had no rights. Men made all decisions and they were the leaders of everything. Having a female president
"O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any of the other women. If you fear God , do not be complaisant in speech so that one in whose heart is a sickness may covet you, but speak honourably. Stay with dignity in your homes and do not display your finery as the pagans of old did" (33:32-33). The Quran later tells Mohammed's wives to place a barrier between themselves and unrelated males. Muslim men are told, "And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from before the screen. That makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs" (33:53) then would have sounded ridiculous. But within time, women have fought for their rights to be seen as equal as men but even though it is 2002 there are still many sexist attitudes around. The term "sexism" dates back from the mid-1960s and came into frequent use after the rise of women's liberation movements in 1968-1969, the practice of sexism has a long history. The term sexism is most often used to refer to men's attitudes towards women, although in recent years there has been increasing discussion of sexism by women towards men. An important issue has been men's lack of rights, particularly those relating to child custody. American feminist writers Susan Faludi and Naomi Wolf have described arguments such as these as part of a "backlash" against women by men following the successes of feminism. Women in Islam have been assigned second-class status in Islam based upon Quran(4:34) which says: " Men have responsibility for and priority over women, since God has given some of them advantages over others and because they should spend their wealth (for the support of women). Priority refers to in this verse is based upon men's socio-economic responsibilities for women. It does not say women are incapable of managing their own affairs, controlling themselves, or being leaders. As a matter effect, in Iran women are required by
