An experience of Mine

It was a hot day and I was returning from gym to home to have lunch. As I entered the door, the smell of the meal attracted and directed me to the kitchen door. I entered the kitchen and saw my mother. She told me to pick up the mail from the post-office box. Unwillingly, I went downstairs, picked up the envelopes, and started to look at them. The one at the top was for my father, the other one was the telephone bill, but when I saw the last one I was really surprised because it was saying that I was admitted for the Forest Supporting Camp which would be carried out in the Kantara hill, just fifteen minutes away from the sea by car. At that time, I would not know that this letter would ruin my summer.

The Forest Supporting Camp was a project to increase the amount of trees in the Kantara hill by planting trees in specified areas and taking care of them. It would be a fifteen day process which would be participated in by twenty seven students from various secondary schools. Our jobs would be the planting of the tress, watering them, and adding of fertilizers which would be done by the twenty seven people divided into groups of nine students from eight to ten am in the mornings in exchange for free meals and dormit

Our aim for the trip was not our love for nature or our interest in plant life. Actually neither I nor he knew anything about raising plants. We wanted to go because these would probably be our last days together because after one month from the camp, he and his family decided to move to England. Our plan was to use the camp as a free hotel and after the work time, we would walk until we arrived at the bus stop and then we would ride the bus to the beach where we would meet our friends. We thought that it would be fun, primarily because there would be no parents to listen to or anyone to interfere with our decisions and I also did not think that the teachers would be very strict. We started the journey with high expectations. As we went through the plains, teachers started to talk about the area and tried to give information to us about the plant life. When we arrived at the camp area, I realized that I could not predict the hardships I had to endure. We rushed inside the dormitory with our bags. The building was single floored; it had two big rooms and three smaller rooms with a kitchen, ten bathrooms, six showers, and a room with a big lengthwise table surrounded by chairs. I got a little disappointed when I learned that there were no fans in the building except the teachers' rooms which were the three small ones. I also did not want to think about how thirty two people would bathe in just six showers. We arrived at the camp area in the evening so it was not too hot, and I thought that we could get a good sleep in a room even with thirteen people. The night was not bad because of the weather; it was bad because of the insects. The room was filled with mosquitoes. I was bitten in various places and as I was falling asleep, I remember that I saw a few cockroaches on the ceiling. It was even worse
