This article is written by Magaly Muguercia a Cuban journalist/artist who grew up during the Cuban revolution of 1959 and currently still works in Havana. He uniquely describes the evolution of Cuban politics (starting with Fidel Castro's revolution and the rise of the socialist regime) by incorporating his own experiences in Cuba as well as his love of the performing arts. He goes through each decade since Fidel's rise in 1959 to the end of the 1990s, also known as the "Special Period", and creatively uses his imagination to describe the decades. He talks about the different phases of social drama starting with a "crack" or something that alters the norm, protests, for example. Then there is the feeling of uneasiness and the state is divided by fighting and violence. The crisis either loses steam or it is resolved and finally it ends (usually) with a division. Muguercia compares this "crack" to Cuban life, starting with the Revolution and ending at th
