Our Society and Body Image
Skinny, blonde and beautiful are just some images that haunt women everyday. No matter who a person is, they are affected by body image. Men and women, young and old, all have their own images of the body. It is scary to think that body images are so important in our society. There is no escape from it. It seems images produced by the media will make people do almost anything to fit American's standard of the "perfect body". Images produced by media and the society effect everyone from birth through adulthood; all ages in society are forced to deal with the expected body image. From the time of birth, images of physical perfection bombard the young mind. When children are young their minds are fragile and are willing to be molded from whatever they are taught. For example, one of the first toys a young girl is given is a Barbie doll. Young girls are taught that Barbie's are beautiful and perfect. Women turn to surgeries to help make them feel better like: nose jobs, breast implants, butt reductions, cheek implants, collagen implants and liposuction. Women want to look more attractive to men and other women so they strive to reach the unachievable image. The perfect Barbie doll-image is what women of all ages strive for. Most people do not view plastic surgery as a major process; they see surgery as a quick way to become a "perfect woman". Many women do not want to wait for years or want to spend time to keep up with their physical appearance. Body image is something that will constantly be worried about. The media and society plays a huge role in the way American's look at themselves. As a child people strive to get the Barbie image. Some people will go to great extents to make their self-esteem better. They will get plastic surgery as a "quick fix" which takes a lot of recovery. The surgery can also lead to horrible outcomes and empty wallets. American's should thin
