The Vietnam War started in 1961 and ended in April 1975, but actually, the American had involved in supporting the French since 1950s.The Vietnam War is the longest and worse war, which Americans have ever involved. The end of World War II opened the way for the return of French in ruling Indochina. Despite Ho Chi Minh showed his professed respect for democratic ideals, he was still unable to convince Washington to recognize the illegally of his independence movement against the French. Eisenhower, the 34th U.S President raised U.S. military aid to The French in Vietnam and U.S. military advisors were sent to Vietnam to assist the French in other to prevent a Communist victory. However, in May 1954, 10,000 French soldiers surrender at Dien Bien Phu, the French lost a crucial battle at Dien Bien Phu with about 8000 Viet Minh and 1500 French died. In early January 1973, the Thieu-Ky regime in Saigon was convinced by the Nixon White House to sign onto the peace one more time. At the same time, Hanoi convinced leaders of the NLF to release southern political prisoners shortly after the peace accord was signed.
