A detailed Summary of Jane 2
The most meaningful theme of this story is that the need to belong is crucial to
achieve true happiness. From the very beginning, it is obvious that all Jane
wants is to be loved and accepted by her family; or anyone for that matter. The
abuse she suffered in her childhood wounded her spirit and her self-esteem for
many years. She was treated like an enemy in her own house; shunned and
punished at every opportunity by her cruel relatives. As a child, Jane endured the
punishment; alone, and unloved. Jane had never been truly been happy until the
night when she collapsed from weakness on a complete stranger's doorst
