Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust Adolf Hitler was one of the cruelest rulers this world has ever known. During his reign Hitler caused enormous suffering for the Jews throughout Germany. Many Jewish families were torn apart by the cruelty of the Nazi party. This, one of the most tragic events in the world's history, is known as the Holocaust. During his quest for power, Hitler carried out his anti-sematic beliefs, which had a devatating effect on the Jewish community, and eventually led to the Holocaust. In the beginning Hitler saw the Jews as he saw everyone else. After contact with them, and extensive research, he began to view them not as Germans, but as their own inferior race. As Hitler wrote his book, Mein Kampf, his criticisms toward Jews grew stronger and stronger with each paragraph (Rice 20). Unfortunately, according to Hitler, the Jews were not the only inferior race. Hitler believed Communists, Gypsies, and Polish people were all weak links, and he told himself that one day he would rid Germany of all inferior races. Hitler was raised a Christian. These so called beds were made even worse by the many lice that infested them (Lace 46). The prisoners sleeping quarters were also infested with thousands of rats. Often when an inmate died during the night, the rats would have all of the flesh eaten off of the body by morning (U.S. History Museum). In his book Mein Kampf, Hitler stated, "Hence, today I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator." Hitler believed that eliminating all people who were not Christian was the work that the Lord wanted him to do (Rice 21). they were either shot or sent directly to the gas chambers.
