Throughout the history of literature, every piece has contained some form of conflict. Those that did not, were never published and most likely never read in their entirety due to the extreme case of boredom readers were seized by half-way through. See, without conflict, a work has no substance and no compelling reason for people to read it. In the play "Pygmalion," George Bernard Shaw utilizes the potential for conflict not only between the characters, but also internally. The result is an unforgettable conflict of interest. Eliza Doolittle's primary contests lie not only within herself, but also between her and Henry Higgins.

Eliza Doolittle begins the story as a poor flower girl that comes in contact with the renowned professor of phonetics, Henry Higgins. H

As the play unfolds, it is obvious that Eliza will have some difficulties in parting with her former self . Relatively minor incidents make this an evident circumstance. The original Eliza Doolittle shows through in the end when she has a fit and hurls various items across the room in disgust for Henry's treatment of her. Although it was well deserved, she should have used her words rather than turning to violence. This creates a number of conflicts, but most importantly, the one between her and Mr. Higgins. He works to change her in ways that are virtually impossible to just phase out of people. She actually wins this battle because although she "stoops" to his low, she is still a better person at heart.
