Meausre For Measure
Shakespeare's play, Measure for Measure is a play about human nature inclination to fall from God's Kingdom. In the play, we are introduced to the character Angelo, a man who seems to be godly, noble, and highly moral man. We see him first fall in greed, then in lust, and finally his desire for power. Each one is an example that proves the sinfulness of human nature. Angelo's life truly represents the life of the sinful humans that we are, but it also illustrates God's grace for his children and his forgiveness of our disobedience. Even though Angelo emits a very moral and ethical personal he is still only human who is destined to sin over and over again. We can assume that Angelo has sinned many times in his life, it's only expected of him. Though outwardly, Angelo seems like a dignified and righteous man. However, he has his faults and fell way from God. Symbolically, Angelo's life represents everybody's life in sin and it shows God's grace in forgiveness. Angelo falls once again as he plots to quench his physical desire for Isabella. Angelo is able to take Isabella's compromising position and use it to his advantage. As Claudio is sentenced to death over his crime of fornication, a punishment that may seem harsh but is fair in those days, Angelo tries to black mail Isabella. He gives her, a novice nun an ultimatum to persuade her into sleeping with him, he says "You must lay down the treasures of your body to this supposed, or else to let him suffer:" (2.4.66-67) and if she doesn't sleep with him he will surely kill Claudio. When Isabella tells Angelo that she will not sleep with he tries to manipulate her by telling her he will give poor Claudio a slow and painful death, tormenting her consciousness even more. Angelo reaches a new low as he spiral down to the depths of those who are devious and pathetic because as well as taking action on his sinful lust, he now is abusing his power that has been entrusted to him by the duke to use honorably. her dowry was lost at sea, and the treasure lost as well he quickly ended thei
