Leadership
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. I have experience democratic leaderships through playing on a high school football team, being apart of groups in college for class presentations, being a youth leader in my church, and also being apart of a family. I have gain important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Some of valuable leaderships traits that I obtained and strengthened are: how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to have more patience, to be not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. Playing sports in high school gave me the opportunity to play on both losing and winning teams. This has given me a different perspective of looking at things. Another trait where I definitely need more strengthening is being more disciplined in the activities that I am involved with. When I started college I noticed that I began developing bad habits. I would not study more than one day in advance for a test. I did not attend class everyday like I normally did in high school. I began to see that I was not following my workout routine since high school. I had moved out from my normally disciplined routine in my parent's home to an environment where no one set any boundaries for me. Since I want to graduate on time I am trying better self-management strategies to discipline myself to higher standards and not continue live with those old same habits. n you come back the next time, be mentally and physically prepared, and ready to meet the next challenge. When youths and adults fail at something in their life, they automatically think that they cannot do it, and finally they give up. By listening to my peers, and by learning from my mistakes I have overcame my obstacles. Through this I have became a democratic leader. In my family I received a lot of the influential leadership qualities. I have two older brothers and a younger sister. I had to learn how to listen and look up to my older brothers and my parents as leaders at the same time. I had to apply the same older sibling role and behave like a leader to my younger sister as in the same manner that my brothers did towards me. There are many ways that I can take to improve my leadership skills. One way is to enroll in a master's program after I graduate from UTA. The classes that are offered in these programs integrate the use leadership and management skills towards mock situations. These classes would help improve my public speaking skills and increase my technical skills. Knowing how to use correctly these traits can open many career opportunities for me and help to be successful in real world. One trait where I need strengthening is being more assertive.
